Why SEO feels too slow

If you’re trying to make fast money from the internet, SEO probably isn’t the move for you. That doesn’t make SEO bad, it just has a specific role to play.

Comparing SEO and ads as different marketing channels

This is where we see another version of Goldilocks Syndrome. Paid ads feel too expensive, so businesses start looking at SEO. SEO then feels too slow, so AI SEO looks like a low-effort shortcut.

SEO is attractive because Google search carries intent. Someone searching on Google is normally trying to solve a problem. They might be researching, comparing options, checking prices, looking for a local provider, or trying to find the exact thing they want to buy.

It’s very different from someone passively scrolling through social media. Social media can create awareness, build familiarity and keep a business visible, but a like or an impression doesn’t always mean someone is close to buying. Search is often closer to the point where a commercial decision is being made.

But SEO takes time. Three to six months is a common starting point, and even that depends on the website, the competition, the content, the structure, and how much useful input the business can provide. It isn’t just a case of publishing a few pages and waiting for Google to send you customers. You need to understand what you’re trying to rank for, what people are actually searching for, what problem they’re trying to solve, and whether your website gives them enough reason to trust you when they show up.

Traffic on its own doesn’t mean much. If you sell fridges and freezers, but people land on your website looking for ovens, it doesn’t matter how many people turn up. They can’t buy an oven from you. Traffic only matters when the page, message and offer are aligned with what people are looking for.

AI doesn’t do that work for you. It can feel like a shortcut because it can generate a lot of text very quickly. But if you don’t give it the right parameters, the right information, and a clear commercial direction, you’re likely to end up with a lot of words that don’t lead anywhere useful.

That isn’t good for Google, and it isn’t good for the person who lands on your website and tries to work out whether you can help them. Before deciding that SEO is too slow, the business needs to understand what SEO is supposed to achieve. Sometimes it is there to capture ready-to-buy demand. Sometimes it is there to help people compare options. Sometimes it is there to build trust before someone enquires.

Those are different jobs, and they need different types of pages. SEO can be valuable, but it isn’t usually the fastest route to money. AI can help with the process, but it doesn’t replace the thinking.

Don’t expect quick results from something that was never built to work that way.
